Edit:
Now testing the HOSAM (mouse and stick) config and it’s freaking amazing commanders! You can basically cover all needed axis with a mouse with two thumb buttons, and a left (twist) stick with thumb sticks. You can even have two y pitches, a rough one for dogfight maneuvers on the left stick (combined with roll on the x axis), and the refined one on your mouse (combined with yaw on the x axis) for pinpoint accuracy with relative mouse control. I’m blown away!
OG post:
What’s great about the mouse with pitch and yaw on it is that you get superior control and aiming compared to HOTAS/HOSAS.
You can enable relative mouse control (the cursor returns to the center of the reticule without player input) to greatly improve FA-off accuracy.
What’s great about having a throttle or stick is that you can go from FA-off to FA-on without having to reset your desired throttle input.
That’s a huge QOL improvement compared to keyboard/mouse, since on a keyboard as soon as you re-engage flight assist after a FA-off boost roll/pitch your thruster input is all messed up and you have to spend precious seconds to reset it manually.
That made me wonder: anyone playing with the mouse in the dominant hand, and a throttle or stick in the other hand?
Maybe a 6-DOF throttle like this or more traditional throttle with enough input for rolls and lateral/vertical thrusts like this or probably even better just a good stick?
