Are we missing clues regarding the Cerberus Plague and the Orthrus Interceptor?

Please correct me if I have any incorrect information.

I'm trying to see if there's a link between the Cerberus Plague from 3301, the alternate strain introduced by the rescued members of Ishmael Palin's abducted research team, and the Thargoid Orthrus variant, which has only been seen for a short time in the vicinity of attacked planetary bases.

For a little bit of background, see the following links:

In Greek Mythology, Orthrus was the brother of Cerberus, who was slain by Heracles. The Orthrus in the above image has bright yellow dots and splotches reminiscent of the Mycoid fungus. I have a couple of thoughts / speculations on this, but nothing concrete:

  1. The Orthrus variant belongs to that part of the Thargoid race that was afflicted by the Mycoid fungus (implying some Thargoids weren't). I thought of this, as Orthrus was slain by Heracles – and in this case, Humanity could represent Heracles.

  2. As per the lore introduced by Drew Wagar, The Mycoid could have affected only the Klaxians or the Oresrians. In such lore, the Klaxians are a very aggressive sect of the Thargoids, most likely responsible for the war against the Guardians, and indiscriminate attacks of the First Thargoid War and within the region of HIP 22460 following the Proteus Wave – whereas the Oresrians are more peaceful towards other races (read: us). As the Orthrus refused to attack under any circumstances, even when attacked itself, it may belong to the Oresrian faction exclusively. This is further supported by the fact that Thargoid Scouts seemed to be attacking or pursuing Orthrus variants – lining up with the idea that the Klaxians are hunting/persecuting the Oresrians.

  3. The mysterious Cerberus Plague was an attack to replicate the Mycoid attack on the thargoid race, but the Thargoids did not anticipate the relatively quickly evolving and adapting nature of humanity, prior to encountering us in as close quarters as they have during this Second Thargoid War

Sorry for this seems like rambling – I don't really have a solid point to make, but I was hoping anyone more in-the-know than I am could shoot holes in my theories, or maybe contribute. Thanks!
