Mission target puts a bounty on me.

So, I'm a bit confused. Perhaps someone can shed some light on this.

I'm in Nanabozho at a RES site with stacked up pirate massacre missions against "Crew of Nanabozho" pirates. I'm doing fine. My T10 is popping pirates like popcorn. Suddenly, I get a message from the Crew of Nanabozho faction saying that they're sending someone after me. Ok, big whoop. I've seen that before and didn't bat an eye.

The pirate "hitman" sent to kill me drops into the RES in a dinky Cobra Mk.III, scans me, and offers their usual threat to hand over the Titanium (I.E. bait) in my cargo-hold. Naturally, I hold fire and wait for them to fire on me first, my auto-turrets will do the rest. I scanned the Cobra and it shows the faction as "Crew of Nanabozho", my mission target. The Cobra opens fire. My T10 laughs and sings it the song of its people, all hardpoints filled with red lasery death.

To my shock and surprise, suddenly my upper right HUD lights up saying I opened fire on a System Authority vessel, which I most certainly did not. Well, given how my T10 is built with long range pulse and beam lasers, I literally don't have time to hit my button to retract hardpoints before the Cobra goes boom. Now I'm slapped with a 5000cr charge of killing a system authority vessel.

I immediately turn tail and head back to the station 60ls away. The Authority Contact at the station shows I killed a member of EG Union, not Crew of Nanabozho.

I know what I saw. I know they shot first. I know their info popped up showing them as the enemy pirate faction. So why am I getting hit with fines?

Naturally, I can pay off the fine and not even notice it in my space-wallet. Still, this now takes time out of my pirate-popping to get straightened out.

Worse yet, this is NOT the first time this has happened to me. Is there something going on that I'm unaware of? Is FDEV aware of this kind of bug?
