Tips for Gear Fear

I notice a lot of people posting about gear fear. They have a lot of instances where it feels like they have more than enough money, but they feel like they can't bring full load outs. A lot of people think the solution is just get a bigger bank, but even after you progress, it feels like you can't justify risking it for the biscuit.

I also had this problem.
The solution?

Wear gear approriate for the task you're trying to accomplish.

This probably sounds common sense, but I actually see it a shit ton. On less popular streamers, with people that I kill, with randoms from Sherpa huh – why bring in a 600k gun when you're trying to loot room 226 in the East Wing? Why is this guy clearing second floor resort 5 minutes into the raid with a Reap IR Springfield M1A?

A hatchling will probably swipe the LedX first, and now you're stuck in the most contested place in the map with little to no clue as to the placing of everyone else in the map. You've put yourself in the middle of the danger zone with the intent of looting, when the gear you're wearing indicates that you should have the intent of killing. Showing up late really just increases the chance that you get sprayed by some hatchling that looted an M4A1 on the third floor. So what would looking to kill someone here hope to accomplish?

I digress.

People oftentimes see lvndmark and Worrun full chad sprinting in dorms marked room or labs – they think we'll if they can do this, why can't I? The thing is, Worrun and Lvndmark have very clear objectives when they do this – kill other players. In this case – in the maps they choose – the reward is high enough for the risk. Since they're going to generally encounter people that are well geared (people having to clear to marked room on customs, people farming raiders) the payout is well worth the money. On top of that, they have the banks to be able to lose it and go again no matter how many "gamers" they run into.

You don't see Pestily, Klean, or Veritas bringing full chad load outs to do meager objective quests, or to loot low value areas that hatchlings can out sprint them to. Hell, sometimes they'll PP-19 Killa because it's good enough – why bother with overkill? They gear themselves relative to the task they're trying to complete.

I have no idea if this helps anyone, but when I could frame risking the high value gear I had for a distinct purpose, I got a lot less afraid of losing it. I even started playing hyper aggressive so that I could get used to taking the initiative instead of ratting around everywhere. You'll feel stupid sometimes (trust me, there is a clip of me dying to lvndmark and him saying "that's stupid aggression"). Because of that, I learned I will never push the way I pushed every again. You won't learn until you're able to frame your progression in a positive light, take risks for meaningful rewards, and are able to learn from it.

Happy hunting.
