Why is artillery so easily able to hit tanks in cover, and mobile tanks?

I had a 3 arty T9 game, in my t-54. There were two M53/M55s and a 212A on the enemy team. I was on fisherman's bay, and played mid off the bat. I took cover behind a ruined house, and the m53 spewed gold at me twice, hitting me for 300 through my cover in total, because he loaded gold. I retreated because he was continuing to fire. a t-54 lightweight nicked me for 250, my only actual wound from a tank this game. I retreated back in the open ,figuring holding the west line would be a good idea, and I was hit twice by M53/M55s while going around 40-45km/h for 600 or so in total. I sat doing nothing as my team slowly died around me, the west side being a passive wankfest while everyone died in the city. at the end of the game I made a do or die charge into the open, going around 45km/h i was spotted, and 2 seconds later my remaining heallthpool vanishes from those 2 same m53s.

I get it, to an extent, that arty is made to punish campers and force you to be aware of the map. But why is it that artillery is so brainless that you can brainlessly hit tanks going upwards of 80km/h with relative ease? I played arty for missions, and it was as boring as it was easy. I've never felt more bored yet disgusted in my life on a videogame. I played enough 10TD Malinovka games to know that artillery is a solution to a problem, and I always was of the opinion that a bad solution was better than no solution, but WOT is seriously making me reconsider that stance.
