Among Us – The Card Game

I came up with this card game and tried playing it a few times. I've redone a few rules here and there, and I believe this is good enough to play. If anyone is confused about anything let me know and I will try to answer it for you.

If you have any suggestions I'm very interested in hearing them.

Setup

(4 or more players required)

For each player, use 1 character card and 5 corresponding task cards that match the character card being used.

The dealer deals out 1 character card to each player at random, face down. The character card represents that player's color. (You can use a standard pack of cards and use the face value of the card in place of color.) The dealer then declares what character will be the impostor this game, before looking at their own character card. The dealer may roll a dice to help decide who the impostor will be.

Each player then checks what character card they have, and leaves it facedown on the table until their character is revealed later on in the game.

The dealer then deals out 5 task cards to each player at random. The players hold their task cards in their hand.

How to Play

Each round starts with an investigation. The investigation is when each player places a task card of their choice face up on the table for everyone to see.

After the investigation is over and everyone has revealed one task card to the group, they can pick their task card back up and hold it in their hand.

Starting to the dealer's left, each player may now take a turn. After each player has taken a turn the round is over. After each round is over another investigation is done, and each player reveals one of their task cards to the group. At the start of each round, the player that went second in the previous round is the first player to take a turn this round.

Taking a Turn

At the start of your turn, you may decide to trade, or not trade, one of your task cards with another player. If you want to trade a task card, place the card you wish to trade facedown on the table, then say what player you want to trade with. The player you want to trade with must give you a task card in return. They get to decide what card they want to give you in return, and place it facedown on the table for you. Only the two players making a trade should see what cards were traded.

At the end of your turn you may decide to vote or clear if you are not the impostor. If you are the impostor you may decide to sabotage or kill.

Vote

If you decide to vote, you must first reveal your character card to the group to prove you are not the impostor. Flip your character card face up, and leave it face up for the rest of the game. Then the player you vote for must also reveal their character card the same way. If you voted for the impostor the crewmates win and the game is over. Each player may only make one vote during the game.

If you make a vote this turn, you may not make a clear this turn.

Clear

If you want to clear, all 5 of your task cards must match up with your character card. Reveal your hand to the group and your character card. You may then choose any player and look at their character card without revealing it to the rest of the group. If you choose to look at the impostor's character card then declare this to the group and the crewmates win. If the player you choose to look at is not the impostor then you can tell the group that they are clear, but you do not have to tell the group what character they are.

After a player has done a clear they must leave their task cards on the table for the rest of the game and may not make any more trades. They may still decide to vote later on when it becomes their turn again, but may not choose to vote this turn.

Sabotage

If you decide to sabotage, first reveal your character card to the group to prove you are the impostor. Then you must guess what character each player is. If you guess any incorrectly you lose and the crewmates win. If you guess all correctly the impostor wins. The impostor may decide to sabotage at anytime during the game, they do not need to wait until it is their turn.

Kill

If you want to kill, all 5 of your task cards must match up with your character card. Reveal your hand to the group and your character card. This is an immediate win for the impostor.

Game Strategy

Pay attention to what cards players reveal during investigations and when players make trades. This will help you figure out where your tasks cards are, and will help you figure out what character each player might be.

Cards you reveal during investigations, cards you trade, who you trade with, and what you say are all clues the other players can use to figure out what character card you have.

Avoid letting the impostor figure out what character you are, also avoid letting the impostor collect all the task cards that match their character.

Be careful when you vote or clear. This can reveal character cards to the impostor and help them win the game.

Unlike the video game, players are able to keep a discussion going the entire time.
