We've all had it happen: You fell into one of the little streams and as you're climbing out, you run out of sprint-juice and fall way down where it starts swimming immediately and you start taking damage. It's thoroughly unrewarding and especially tough with carts that can be really hard to navigate across any terrain that isn't perfectly flat.
It punishes impatient players, yes, but I believe my idea here strikes a balance…
So what if you, when holding the Sprint-button and you run out of Stamina, you stop sprinting and start walking at a slower speed with increased grip, for steeper angles climbing.
You will of course not regenerate Stamina at all during this time, so you'll have the added risk of not being able to fight during the ascent.
