Steam Deck support will add all kinds of complexity around extra support, QA, bugfixing. The first wave is maybe 200k units and a fraction of those will have Valheim and a fraction of those will play Valheim over some of their other games.
Valheim already has low FPS on mid range computers. The Steam Deck has a CPU equivalent to the Ryzen 3 3100 CPU (a $99 budget desktop CPU). My friend has a PC like that and he gets 6 FPS. He uses aggressive performance boosting mods to get to 30 FPS – but the Steam Deck isnt going to let you use those mods, and its not in base Valheim.
According to the anniversary devblog today they are currently optimizing for something that will likely affect 0.1% of the userbase.
Its like when they choose to rewrite the stamina/food system for H&H – very few people asked for this, its was widely disliked, nobody knew how it got past QA or playertesting, and they ended up reversing most of it.
There have been objects hidden in the game files for a year now like stone_floor and turf_roof. As an anniversary gift maybe try adding the 10 lines of boilerplate code to enable some of those?
