Addressing the most common anti Ship Interior arguments.

1-[MOST IMPORTANT POINT] It would be too resource intensive for Fdev.

WTF makes you think that? Seriously. We do NOT need StarCitizen Ship Interiors.
NEVER DID!
It will be TOTALLY OK IF

  • The transition between rooms of the ship is not by actually walking but instead the semi-teleportation that is used in the stations when you use a lift.
  • There are only very few rooms. We do not NEED a fucin castle. Not even for the big ships. 1 Room for the T1-Ships, 2 for the T2s, 3 for the T3s. THAT WOULD ALREADY BE ABSOLUTELY ENOUGH!
  • Certain Rooms are recycled between similar ships. (Brand and Tier)
  • There are no manable turrets or anything of the likes. Sure it would be cool, but it is absolutely not needed. Stuff like that can come later if Fdev thinks it is ok.
  • There is no boarding. It would be cool, 100% unneeded. This isn’t StarTrek.
  • You do not actually physically place every individual ship part.
Just give us a panel to interact with … something to weld … YOU KNOW!
It REALLY doesn’t have to be SpaceEngineers. It would be cool, but 100% unneeded.
Since these are all nice-to-haves. Ship-Interiors themselves are NOT anymore.

2- There would be nothing to do.

Ship Repair … EVER heard of Ship Repair?
The tools are there! The potential is there! SERIOUSLY! This could LITERALLY be game-changing.
Can you imagine how awesome that would be?
The argument of these Interiors getting boring is the WEAKEST by far.
I mean for immersion ALONE I for my part would already be 100% willing to die on this hill.

3- AFMUs are already a thing.

You never could repair the PowerPlant or the Canopy with them and need a second for the AFMU itself.
For these functions ALONE I’d already be happy about ship repair.
And seriously. SCREW these! They are ok but using them as a counter argument against
Ship Interiors is like using some “sacred Rock” as a counter argument against a new Highway.

4- I’d never use them.

There are some that never even engineer their ships (too much grind).
Cool. But I bet you, most of us will. If you actually believe that you would not stand at that lookout-deck of the Anaconda OFTEN enough … then you are either lying to yourself or I honestly think you are missing out on a part of ED that is arguably its GREATEST aspect.
The immersion.

Immersion, that really is what this all comes down to.
A few Rooms. A few Buttons to press. A few Wires to weld. A few windows to look out of.
That is all. If put into perspective, THAT would NOT be THAT much work.
Prioritization is key.
The only “minor” feature that comes to mind, which is perhaps too important to actually leave out, would be the ability to at least have your ship keep going forward in a straight line while you traverse said rooms.

These few rooms would be all that is needed for the damage done through Odyssey to be at least mitigated to a point of redemption.

And even if you dismissed that:
Give us these Rooms and with relatively little work, the age-old wish for Ship-Interiors can finally come true!
