Like when you park in a station overnight or shutting off all possible modules before swapping to a different ship?
It's just an RP thing I guess as there isn't any need to do this in Elite, but I've always liked doing startup sequences in flight/train/truck sim games. Just something oddly satisfying about systematically activating various functions to prepare a big machine for operation.
Aside from the fairly underwhelming optional pre-flight checks, there is really nothing required before flying except pressing the launch button. So to scratch that itch in Elite I store every ship completely cold. Before logging off or switching ships I shut down every module I can. Then when it's time to fly I have to activate each module before a ship is flight-ready. I even prioritise the "startup sequence" for modules like thrusters, FSD, and life support first followed by the "lesser" stuff like scoops, weapons, utilities, etc.
I've been doing this for years now and suddenly grew curious…anybody else do this or any other unnecessary routine just for your own satisfaction?
