My main gripe with the difficulty is that it is super hard to lose a mission that is near your power level. Sure, you can crank the difficulty with bluglo, but then it's just the same thing but your guns don't deal much damage. I think the gameplay should be more challenging, but not in an annoying way (lobber spam should be nerfed, for example). it would make it far more enjoyable.
There is already a way in game that this could work, the epic mini boss and wargames modifiers. These could apply to all missions. Let's say if the players spend some bluglo, we could get a random modifier for the remainder of the mission, cranking the difficulty in an unexpected way, but giving a 20 percent increase to all mission rewards including quest rewards, and multiple modifiers can be applied, up to 5 for double mission rewards. It's a way more fun way of using bluglo to up the difficulty of gameplay than enemies just having more health. Imagine fighting double smashers, headshot only, with the totems to remove debuffs that appear, with close quarters modifier as well. It's hard, but you have to opt in to it, and it rewards handsomely. It sounds to me like a great system to make missions harder and more fun.
