With all the distractions of the Odyssey release, it's easy to lose sight of the things that really matter in life – like DPS.
With all due reverence and piety to the FDL Temple, I'm having some serious doubts about the meta. I have my angelic FDL build on my right shoulder, but on the left is my demonic Corvette build whispering: "The raw DPS of PAs and rails can't make up for the time-on-target of gimballed weapons, Nuke."
Heresy aside, it does seem like the impressive DPS of meta builds is only applicable to an ideal situation at close range – and only if you land every shot.
I have fully engineered meta FDL (PAs + rails) and Corvette (MCs + lasers) builds. The fact is: If I'm rolling up on a CG with high PVP probability, I feel more comfortable in the 'vette.
My proposition is that MC's, frags, missiles, and lasers are best for virtually every irl situation – and the only redeeming quality of the meta1 is a higher theoretical skill ceiling.
All viewpoints are encouraged.
Edit: 1 Here, "meta" refers to a PA+Rails setup.
