Dota 2 to HoN MMR comparison

Hi guys, a thread just for the sake of comparison between two moba titles.

Some threads have been made about this but they're too old for a good comparison, as Dota 2 MMR distribution has vastly changed over time.

How would you compare the MMR brackets in Dota 2 and HoN?

Before starting to play Dota 2, I made a rough guess that Crusader ~1600 mmr (Dota 2) = 1500 mmr (HoN), and each bracket would be equivalent to a 100-mmr break in HoN. So Archon = 1600 mmr; Legendary = 1700 mmr; Ancient = 1800 mmr; Divine = 1900 mmr and Immortal = 2000 mmr.

However, after playing the game for a while, I have a feeling that this doesn't seem like the case. Maybe something like this would be more accurate:

Dota 2 MMR HoN MMR
2200 (Archon 1) 1500
3000 (Legendary 1) 1600
3800 (Ancient 1) 1700
4600 (Divine 1) 1800
5600 (Immortal) 1900
7000+ (Immortal in the top 3000+) 2000+

This table also seems more logical. In HoN, every game gives a player +/- 4mmr, given that the games are balanced (avg. mmr of the team ~= mmr of the players). This means that a net win of 25 games is required to advance 100 HoN mmr, which is roughly equivalent to the 800 Dota 2 mmr needed to advance a bracket. The slightly extended Divine-to-Immortal bracket also reflects the lower average mmr gain/loss per game in the 1800-1900 bracket in HoN. From 1900 to 2000 mmr in HoN, the gain/loss from a game ranges from +/- 0.4 to +/-4 mmr, so the amount of net wins required are even more.

Furthermore, I remembered that HoN used to have roughly 100,000 active players, and only a modest amount of which (50-100 players) managed to reach 2k in all servers, that is about 0.05-0.1% global player base. A rough guess about the number of 7k players in Dota 2: 9k players? (3k from WEU, 6k from other regions combined) and that would correspond to the top 0.1% of Dota 2 global player base.

Comparatively, 2k mmr players in HoN generally know exactly the winning conditions of the game and several possible pathways to reach it. I guess that players at the 7k+ mmr bracket in Dota 2 are also at that level. At the 6k mmr bracket that I am currently at, I haven't seen the average 6k players being able to have such level of understanding, yet.

All discussion are welcomed 😀
