I fancied a ramble after watching obsidian ants latest vid.

Elite didn't die but when into hibernation when Frontier decided to make the Jurassic games etc and gambled on a big payout from them.

Odyssey was space legs that everyone was asking for but not in a way that people wanted, people wanted more in space legs be it walking around your ship or raiding hulks etc. What we got was a bad FPS with crude capture the flag game play that is not a style of gameplay that fits with Elite.

The on foot should be Raiding old space hulks, the exploration they already have, limited salvaging (make them an instance that is gone once attempted like the random junk you find on planets) , missions on foot but more sneaky ones (currently they be so boring) and the insta kill when caught and scanned is just dull to being stupid. You should be offered a chance to surrender first.

Space legs in own ship, granted to map out every ships interior is time consuming but just limit it to commanders room, flight deck and srv/fighter bays, exit to planet / surface and escape pod. The rest make it off limits as it has no atmosphere/compression. Of course that goes with the size of ship. That's entirely feasible.

Console was dropped for reasons unknown(ish) but most likely player base and restrictions of shoehorning such a game onto a console the same with poor VR support, don't get me wrong VR support should be improved upon its one of the many reasons people play the game and it gets accolades for.

Oh and u/Frontier if you turn the on foot combat against the Thargoids into reskinned human slaves you will kill the game. Go the Starship Troopers route.

Oh and make the Hutton mug a real item for the cockpit! I could go on o=and on but I better do some work 😉
