Can I just say that I love how this game often makes a standard session dissolve into an epic quest?
I was just getting ready for Moder in my solo game – found the spawn point, just busy smelting enough silver to finish all my upgrades. While waiting for that I decided to go on a serpent hunt (because you know, why not?)
Of course I ended up in a storm and forgot to check the health of my longship. I finally found a serpent, started killing it and it killed my longship, right in the middle of the ocean. Luckily the serpent at that point was nearly dead, so I managed to punch it to death before it killed me. Still, the deer hides and iron nails sank too quickly for them to end up in my inventory, so there I am, floating in the middle of the ocean with only half my longship ingredients.
I swam to shore without dying by using the log off/log on stamina reset, and ended up on an island that was mostly swamp and plains. Eek! (I'm mountain level at this point.) Ended up checking the seed map online to find the nearest meadow bit, managed to get there without getting ambushed by fulings, then getting a few leather scraps to build a raft. I managed to raft over to my nearest portal to get back home (god, rafts are slow compared to longships!)
Made it in the end without dying, but boy was it an epic diversion that took me about an hour to complete! I love this game. 🙂
(Note: I don't use any mods or adjustments – this is the game as it comes.)
