Excess Pine Cones

I presume that after finishing the Xmas reward book tree that any pine cones gained are surplus to requirements and are of no use and then disappear. Is that right?

IIRC this is what happened last time there was an event like this and it seems like a missed opportunity to incentivise (at least newer) players to play more games. I'm in the position where I don't need kegs or scraps to improve my card collection but being able to use excess event rewards (in this case pine cones) would seem to be an easy way to get newer players to play more games. Make them worth half of a reward point maybe? 20 scraps, 25 ore or 15 powder per cone that can be redeemed before the end of the event? Maybe less than that – but anything would be an incentive.

Too generous, not generous enough, not worth thinking about, a different approach? Any opinions?
