My theory is that Impostors are either a form of "The Thing" or some shapeshifting Extraterrestrial.
Point A: a fairly common death animation is a scene of the Impostor's Torso splitting apart. revealing teeth and a Pharyngeal jaw used to impale the skull of a Victim.
Point B: The Impostor can make equipment malfunction from anywhere across the map without touching anything, this implicates a form of telekinesis.
Point C: The Impostor seems to have knowledge of how to be a Crewmate, this is similar to how "The Thing" retain the memory of their victim, meaning the Impostor doesn't have to undergo Crew training to know what to do.
Point D: coming from the previous explanation on "retaining memory from its victim" the Impostor is a different crewmate almost every round, implicating it does kill off-game to become a different victim after either its last Host was either blasted into space or managed to establish victory on the map.
