Fishing and fish traps in mistlands update – info/tips collection

Hi guys,

I am trying to get into fishing in the new update, but the info about it so far is quite scarce. So I am hoping you guys can provide important tips and I will try to collect them in this thread.

Main questions from my part:

  • Now that fish jump a lot more and easily get stuck on land: Have you build any sucessful fish traps? The old fish ramp design appears to be outdated
  • I haven't fished much before, but fishing seems very hard for what its worth. Main issue is stamina and waves. Even with over 150 Stamina it runs out so quickly (cast between 5-15 meters) and I tried spam clicking when the fish swims away from shore. Any tips?

Collection of info:

Fishing rod can be bought at merchant

Data on different types

from steamuser a.mcbob

  • Fish stock may overlap at zone borders
  • You get the Tetra in very rare frost cave with a lake (not a frozen one)
  • Besides being relevant for other baits, the different types are all the same when it comes to cooking (not counting size of the fish)

Fishing skill

  • Increases pull speed and lowers stamina drain
  • Generally given every time you reel in (even without bait)
  • Taking a fish by hand doesn't increase exp

Fishing in gerneral

  • Cast the fishing rod by pressing right-click (can be charged for range) and reel it in by left-click
  • If a fish takes the bait a yellow cicle will light up around the hook. Press right click at that moment to hook a fish
  • If a fish "doesn't take the bait' it is the wrong bait (see list above)
  • Fish flee in a storm
  • Fish can be caught out of the water by pressing E (even if you are reeling them in)
  • There seem to be specific spawn locations that respawn after some time
  • Some fish (like the Tetra) dont respawn
  • Fish come in 5 different value categories (the number you see in the inventory). The higher the tier, the bigger/heavier it is and it will result in more pieces at the cauldron
  • Eating stamina food is almost mandetory to reel them in
  • Casting over 20m makes it harder to preserve enough stamina
  • Waves often hinder the chance of a fish biting
  • Moving can help bringin a fish to land or generally guide direction while reeling in
  • Much like in real life, if a fish swims directly away from you, you need to redirect the fish by turning slightly and spam clicking left-click

English is not my native language, so please excuse any mistakes.

Hope I can learn some things from you guys and help others!
