This game does everything well except the technical aspect. It seems to perform terribly in some situation and decent at best.
With no mods, setting on minimum, shoreline at meadow, hovering around 60-80 fps.
Smallish base with a couple buildings, fires, and some terrain adjustment, 30-40 fps.
It gets really bad when fighting in the swamp with a bunch of mobs swarming nearby. Fps will drop below 30 occasionally.
To make matter worse, multiplayer will drastically reduce my performance by another 5-10 fps. Mods are a great addition to the game, but again, lose a few more frames.
I don't think my specs are terrible, i7 6700k,32 gb ram, and gtx 1070. Mods + 2 players + swamp = lagfest when the mobs start piling in. Constant fps below 10. I played more graphically demanding game that doesn't get this bad. Is this common for everyone? Does anyone here get 60+ fps in 2 player multiplayer in biome like mistland and swamp?
