Shortly after defeating the Elder, with just my bronze armor, weapons, and crypt key, I decide to sail to a new island on a tiny little raft. It’s a ways off, but once I get there I start going along the shore.

1. Pass by the swamp for the first time, a leech starts following me – swimming just a tad faster, so he’d catch up to my raft, swing his head back to take a bite, and then reset because now I’m out of range
2. Some draugrs start trying to swim out to intercept me… right as the wind changes and starts pushing me toward the land
3. Get past the swamp, the next area (as luck would have it), is the plains… first thing I see is a deathsquitto start flying toward me… so I try to steer toward the open option
4. The leech is still following me
5. It’s getting dark and I’m afraid of running into sea serpents, so I weave in and out of the plains water and the open ocean until I find the Black Forest

Probably wouldn’t have been as scary if I had backup gear, a nearby portal, or it wasn’t so far away. Still, harrowing experience 🙂
