I know Odyssey is in rough shape- hell, I play on Horizons myself to avoid frame drops and some of the goofy choices Frontier made, but how I'm already sick of all the people posting "THE GAME IS LITCHERALLY UNPLAYABLE" and "ODYSSEY RUINED MY FAVORITE GAME" and "PSA: NO REFUNDS IF YOU OPEN YOUR CARGO HATCH IN DECIAT" or "WHY AM I PAYING TO BE A TESTER?"
I understand your frustration- I really do, but this kind of braindead dogpiling seems fruitless, nevermind asinine. Odyssey is a rough turd in the laundry machine and all we're doing is watching it splatter on the window and asking ourselves what went wrong, but the variety of content posted here has degenerated into a tribalistic ritual where you must say Odyssey is bad to post anything. I've seen perfectly good comments get downboated into oblivion just because they said "Odyssey isn't that bad".
I have been playing this game for almost eight years now, more and less than many of you, and I've never smashed my face into it as hard as some people. I've avoided using exploits like the Quince mission stacks. When the Void Opal Rush came, I did a little then avoided it because it just wasn't fun mining for 8 hours or reading an ore map. When Guardian Ruins came out, I scanned them organically instead of reloading the instance so many times.
I've had people short of call me an idiot because I refuse to farm things like Jameson's Crash Site to get Wake Exceptions and other data.
But because of all these things, it feels like so many people aren't even playing the game itself, and are just looking for guides or workarounds to avoid the game mechanics. And even after all that, they find reasons to come here and blow their top over the game they're barely even playing.
Please understand, I'm not calling anyone out; if I were, I'd be slinging around direct quotes and /u/MeNoLikeyOdyssey. I'm just so heartbroken to see this subreddit degenerate into Hotel California.
The game does have problems, and it's not a small list; but isn't there some better way to contribute to that beyond angry posts on Reddit? Fdev is working on it, and a lot of these things have been said before. Complaining about a particular factor over and over wont make them fix it any faster.
Would I like it if ship interiors were added? Absolutely, but Fdev metaphorically shot themselves in the foot when they decided to make ED:Beyond a free expansion instead of the paid one they'd originally envisioned. I'd encourage you to go back and look at all the content that was added in Beyond, despite that it was, in fact, free.
Elite can and has been a wonderful game, and has proven time and again that it is a passion project, fueled by a number of people on the company's staff. No exception to David Braben himself- Elite is his baby. It has the capacity to be a fun, enthralling game that sucks down multiple hours simply coasting around being a deep space explorer, an Imperial Slave trader, mercenary or anywhere in between. It's not going to stay like this, and I think this subreddit needs a drop of positivity to fight against the malaise of angry posters who think they game is about has hot dogshit as No Man's Sky was on release day.
Edit: Hate-Brigaders need not reply.
