Had it in my steam library since release, only really played a few hours before moving on to other stuff, but I've come back and given it a proper shot this time and I CAN NOT PUT IT DOWN. Seriously this game scratches itches I didn't even know I had.
I feel I must make it clear as well that I do not usually play survival games, they bore me, but this game manages to make me completely forget about that, the world is just an absolute joy to be in, the gorgeous visuals and charming sound design making even the most mundane of tasks seem like bliss. The building is simple but effective, I'm finding it easy to understand while still learning new and cooler ways of constructing things, and the satisfaction I get from conquering a new biome and leaving my own mark of civilization on it, bit by bit, is absolutely enthralling to me.
I feel like much of what this game does has been done by other games, but no other has captivated me in the way Valheim has, why does this game stand out so much? Even with all the praise I've given it I can't really put my finger on exactly which piece of the puzzle makes it all click for me. Would love to hear your thoughts.
