How do you decide on your unconventional ships?

I’ve posted a couple times regarding ship builds and what not, such as asking what’s actually important with explorers, what’s a good unique use for each ship, and one or two others

But today I’m curious about anyone’s unconventional ships 🙂
There’s obviously ‘meta’ options for what ship to use for what situation, like the explorers being the ASP X, DBX, either Krait, and Anaconda, the FDL being the meta PVP ship (if I remember, I don’t PVP), Type-9 and Cutter for cargo ships, and so on
But I’m more thinking about ships that seem like they’d not fit into that category, like how the Python’s ended up being used for pretty much everything, passengers, cargo, fighting, mining, and so on

Things such as my current intrigue of trying out an explorer Vulture because I love the cockpit view and the feel, and with engineering it can still reach about 40ly, though with some tweaking I could get some more

What are your unconventional ship choices, and what made you choose them? Or if you haven’t been able to due to things like engineering, what are some unconventional builds you’d want to try out and why?

Thanks in advance, CMDRs o7
