Last week I engineered shield for my new ship to the max after hours of farming HGEs and material forests.
For some reason my power output was higher than planned after engineering which made the build unviable, as it has a very tight power budget (99,7% is planned to be used).
Turns out I build in and engineered the wrong part. (an A-rated shield instead of the planned D-rated shield). Now it's always good to have a fully engineered A-rated shield in storage, but as you can imagine, this was a major bummer, especially as this was the last part that needed engineering to complete the build.
This took my motivation instantly and this is after coming from a months long hiatus after the last incident, where I crashed and destroyed my ship at the planetary base where I wanted to cash in all my exploration data after a long trip.
Now this may look like a whiney pity post, but I actually really like the game. Even when not playing for months I constantly think about it, theorycrafting builds and researching stuff on community websites. It really deserves more of my time to actually play it ingame, but I need to find a way to motivate myself after major setbacks, which can hit harder in Elite compared to games with safer ways to progress.
How to you cope with this stuff?
