So I was very surprised by this just now:
i'm on a planet for which there are 3 geologicals — the number that the body information shows, and the number in the surface map filters; the specific types are lava spouts, gas vents, and fumaroles. As I expected, scanning the first lava spout i came across gave me a new codex entry, and then another at the first gas vent, which was a "silicate vapor gas vent". However, on a whim I went to scan a second gas vent — I guess I thought it was a geyser, because I forgot that fumarole was the third type (I hate that we have to go back into space to see what the types are again), and much to my surprise, I got *another* codex entry for a *different* type of gas vent — sulphur dioxide.
All this time, I've been stopping my composition scans as soon as I encounter the first of a given geological feature, but this means that planets can have *more than one sub-type of the same geological feature. mind blown.
so my question is: how the heck do I know when it's safe to stop scanning and move on?? Up to this point, I've always stopped after scanning exactly one of each geological feature/landmark type for which there is DSS filter.
On a related note, could a planet have more than one of a biological type for which there is a DSS filter??
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
