Elite dangerous is pretty much dying. What would you do to attract new (and old) players?

To my opinion what makes a game stand for a long time are 2 main things:
– modding: which is not ED case.
– competitive gameplay: ED is a Dangerous universe where you are suppose to fight your way trough in order to complete your mission. This has been said many times, but I'm going to tell it another one, enigineering makes old players unbeatable, and the game unfair and less intresting. There is no way a new player, with a max outfitted ship is able to even scratch an engineered ship, so why even try it. NERF combat related engineering or even remove it, old player will have more threat as new players approach the game, and new players will have a chance of defending themselves and have fun. Ofc all of this assumes the fact that playing online is more intresting than solo playing, which is true.

It doesn't even make sense, the flight model is perfect and combat oriented; there are multiple fighters spaceships completely useless against metaFDL; PVP fights are the longest of every other game (which can be funny and strategic for someone and boring for some others).

Imo the game should be rebalanced around combat, like the original version was.
