Now, first of all, Valheim has phenomenal terrain generation. Every time I play I encounter a new lovely place that just stuns me with how pretty it looks, and no two are the same.
That being said, I think it could be improved at the larger scale.
With what we have right now, we have a lot of medium-sized islands, with about the same proportions of biomes. Yes we get some variablity with distance from spawn, and far north and the far south. But the other biomes are just random. If you zoom out, the map looks just like camo cloth.
Instead, I think it would be more interesting to have larger variation. Like a giant continent only criss-crossed by a few barely navigable rivers. Or an archipelago of a lot of small islands. Biomes could also clump together more. Let's see a giant Black forest, or plains sprawling as far as eye can see.
I think that would make discovery much more meaningful. Right now, when you discover a new continent, it's all the same stuff you've already seen, just put together slightly differently.
Ideally, it would be a slider at game start/world generation, so you could have perfect randomness as it is now, or make things as distinct as you want them to be.
What do you think? Do you like the current distribution of landmasses and biomes?
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
