They seem to be trying to squeeze the last out of the loyal player base as they realize it is no longer growing and the moba genre is saturated. Since they no longer see Dota as a cash cow, they are taking it to the slaughter for the final payout.
The crown jewel of eSports, the International, is getting a much smaller share of the revenue of BP. Meanwhile, level 100 of BP doesn't seem to offer anything interesting anymore, level grinding is less of an option, and Arcana is now at level 500.
We've felt this for years, but the player base and the professional community has never been so obviously alienated. The suggestions of using buying behavior to give feedback to the monopolist make no sense: whether we buy the BP or not, it won't change Valve's behavior. From an economic point of view, the lack of growth can be compensated by larger margins, i. e. higher prices and lower costs.
