Valheim players often lament the item retrieval system from their corpses. If you do a death run with backup gear and make it to your tombstone, you may not have enough inventory slots available to take all the items you need in one go from the tombstone. The currently in place "Take All" button will take the items from the tombstone that occupy your inventory slots that are freed up, but often that means that your primary weapons and sometimes armor won't make the cut, because those slots can be filled by backup gear. A little inventory organization prior to reaching your tombstone can go a long way toward making sure you get the items you need most on the first try, especially if you have a consistent way you like to keep your inventory organized and you know roughly which slots will have which items. That's also why I consider it to be a good thing that the game doesn't lock us into specific armor slots within the inventory setup. This way we have more freedom to plan our item retrieval strategy.
Generally in Valheim there are a lot of mechanics that give the players the choice to do some prep work and make the game easier for themselves (like above). So much of my enjoyment of the game has come from having the choices I make matter, and I really appreciate that Valheim gameplay in particular gives me so much freedom to change my characters' fate. Some of the newer players may not know or remember, but originally the tombstone item retrieval was even more challenging than it is now. There was no increased carry weight capacity with the tombstone disintegration/corpse run buff, only healing, so you would grab your stuff and be immediately weighed down unless you had enough time to panickedly chuck some heavy stuff on the ground or put your belt on. Given that they've already changed it favorably once, it feels (to me) a bit greedy to ask them for additional changes to make it even easier.
So, I don't really think any change is essential, but here's the idea: A feature I have seen new players look for and be disappointed not to find is an "Exchange" button in addition to the "Take All" button. Essentially something that dumps your current inventory into the tombstone and transfers whatever was in the tombstone to your character inventory. So a complete swap, with no corpse run buff because the tombstone would still be intact and contain the backup gear. Given that players currently can mitigate their corpse run troubles without this button, what do you all think? Do you appreciate the current system or do you want a swap feature, or both?
