I've been doing PWO missions in Twine. I often get teammates who will spend the entire defense right outside my trap tunnels killing husks, while ignoring all other undefended spawns and attack points. Of all the things players do, this confuses me the most.
Recent example:
I load in to a Twine PWO RtL mission, find the van, throw up a quick build around it, no traps or upgrades. The other players are off doing whatever in the rest of the map, which is perfectly fine, I'm in no rush. I pick one of the spawn directions and build a trap tunnel for it. One of the other players comes over to the objective and starts it, the other players vote to start but don't come to help. Sadly this is all normal.
I'm fighting the husks on the sides of the objective that nothing was built for, no traps, the walls around the van never got upgraded, and I realize the other person, the one who started the mission, isn't anywhere near me. Where are they? They are over at my trap tunnel entrance, placing more traps outside of it and trying to kill everything before anything can enter my trap tunnel.
This happens a lot, and it always confuses me. So I decide to stop solo defending all the other sides of the objective and go stand on my trap tunnel to watch. Almost immediately the van starts taking damage and is soon down below 50% health, I just keep watching as it goes into the red before the other player finally abandons my trap tunnel and goes to save the objective. They start frantically spamming walls and ramps everywhere around the objective.
The other two players come over, realizing how close the mission is to failing…and immediately go right outside of my trap tunnel to fight the husks. They never went near the objective, not even to see where the husks were getting through and if there were any that still need cleared away from the van.
The first wave ends and all three of the other players are now spamming even more traps outside of my trap tunnel. Because obviously my fully trapped and upgraded tunnel is the problem here lol. Once they are satisfied that absolutely nothing will make it into my trap tunnel, they start the second wave. Not a care in the world about any other spawn direction, just giving it their all right outside my trap tunnel that is also now surrounded by a chaotic sea of their traps.
This happens in most PWO missions I play, and I really don't understand the thinking here. I only play in Twine, where it makes even less sense that players keep doing this. If they want to run and gun the objective defense…why aren't they doing it on the undefended sides of the objective? If they want the highest combat score…why focus on the one area that is defended instead of the others that are flooded with hoards of husks free for the killing? I end up with the highest combat score with them doing this regardless, as I'm killing everything else plus whatever happens to makes it past them and into my tunnels.
Does anyone else experience this? Have any theories or possible explanations of why they do it? I'm just absolutely baffled here LOL.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
