Over the years Valve have made huge quality-of-life strides in DotA2. You no longer have to fight for your team courier, beg side laners for tangos, fight over last hitting enemy wards, rely on bad supports to buy wards. (Great job Valve!)
But the biggest and most impactful change, apart from smurf detection, has to be Overwatch. However, unless it is made very carefully, that impact can easily be as harmful as it can be amazing. I personally believe most of the potential benefit of Overwatch is unrealized. But regardless, we should discuss any reform we think it needs, and my suggestions are below:
(TLDR: In short, we need a LOT more information)
EDIT:TLDR: new replay system proposed, just like normal replay but with names removed, and new reporting system proposed where u can report 5-6 hours after match has concluded, by going back in ur replays. also, ur suggestions and opinions inquired.
1) We need the entire post match screen- the Overview tab can show if items were destroyed, at what time they were destroyed, etc. The Scoreboard tab can show who bought the wards, and the picking order which can be very important in some cases. And obviously the graphs can show items destroyed as well. And it can easily be made anonymous by removing the player links I feel.
(NOTE: Valve is very serious about anonymity. Currently you can come out of the review to take some time, but if you somehow get the replay ID and search it, it is explicitly unreachable by you)
2) We need to improve the mechanism of giving reports. Okay, small problems first. When you are on your last report, you can't add "markers" by re-reporting, it shows you don't have any remaining. Clearly, that needs to be fixed. There is also a small bug where you don't have any reports remaining, but it is still possible for a few players in the game. Maybe that has to do with role reports.
But there is a bigger problem imo. DotA is so mentally involved and intensive, sometimes you never even realize a grief during playing the match. And why should it be against the rules to go back in your recent replays and report people then? Unless there is a big problem in that, reports should be possible for 5-6 hours after the match. That gives players a chance to calm down and avoid impulsive reports, to actually go and find out if and when someone griefed, and you can go back and put exact markers as well. And role reports should be included in that. (Although we don't really know how those are judged, so i guess the jury's out on that)
3) Access to chat and review tools:
All chat and team chat, as we know, are probably the single most important individual feature for judging who was griefing and fighting and abusing. But it takes away the anonymity aspect to a certain extent, i guess. I see no other reason for not including it already, and it would be great if english-translated chat could be available. I hope some of you can offer solutions.
And the review tools we need are: firstly, a 10-15 second rewind/fast forward button, and maybe fog of war for both teams.
What suggestions do you guys have?
