Love the game, hate one aspect of it.

Well, hate is maybe too strong a word. Dislike? Am irritated by?

The terraforming process in the game drives me nuts. The whole thing from using the pickaxe to carve out space and the leveler to flatten or raise the ground just make me insane. Combined with how the world is designed I've had a very frustrating 24 hours in the game.

I found an island that has a swamp, meadows and mountain sharing a border. Gravy on top is that there's a large black forest bordering the meadow on the other side and the meadows has consistently spawned 1 star boar. So I decided to build a base there to begin my incursions into the swamp. I wanted to do something different so I decided to cut up the mountain below the freezing line and build a base there. Everything was fine until I hit a lateral limit in the mountain side. I knew there was a limit to how far down you could dig, but I didn't think there was a lateral limit INTO the mountain. Anyway, I hit the limit and it was a sloping one going outward toward the shoreline the deeper you went. The end result would have been a decent footprint for the base building but the basement was going to have a smaller footprint to the point where it would be too cramped to build the workshop I wanted down there. So I scrapped the idea of a basement. I built the base building fenced it off and started building my kiln/smelter area when I realized that the space I want for the animal pen and garden would be too small.

So what to do? I couldn't dig further into the mountain so I figured I'd use all the stones I had to extend my grounds out into the meadow. That plan was actually work well. I managed to extend my yard space out a good four meters which gave me the room I needed. But then I hit another limit. For some reason, the outermost edge of the property isn't being raised. I poured 50 stone into it but there's a good two meter section around the edge that won't go higher. The only way to make it even with the rest of my yard is to lower the level of my entire property. It was messing with my stake wall. I demolished the section of it where I was working to raise the ground and when I went to put it back in, a good portion of it was hanging in the air. I had to use posts to stabilize the structure to keep sections from turning red structurally. It looks awful now. I can't use the hoe to raise the ground under it either because again, for some reason I can't raise the ground any further.

Very frustrated by all of this.
