I don’t mean this as a personal attack on NG players, I just want to explain one reason that faction is so despised at all levels of play
Here’s a list of cards that go in, almost, EVERY competitive NG deck:
Usurper
Joachim De Wett
Roderick of Dun Tyne
Coup De Grace
Gorthur Gvaed
Cantarella
Braathens
Blightmaker x 2
Mage Assassin x 2
Invocation
Dead Man’s Tongue
That’s 14 of your 25 cards already decided for you. A major problem with these cards besides them forming the core of all NG, and they will for the foreseeable future, is that they are archetypeless, unconditional and yet play for more points than most synergistic factions can compete with in a long OR short round. They don’t allow for any creative game plan, they are not versatile, unless you count praying to swipe your opponent’s best card.
They’re overbearing in NG as a whole too, cards like Ivar Evil-Eye don’t see play because they don’t synergise with Joachim.
NG is dull and uneventful because these cards have so little identity that they’d be this potent in any faction, non of them support archetypes, they’re just raw points.
I don’t know when or why NG became the repetitive point slam faction but I think something should be done about it, because each expansion just adds more mandatory identityless cards to the same deck. I think these cards should be addressed to support archetypes and not just their own unconditional point slam skeleton of an entire faction.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
