Considering EFT doesn't have microtransactions, game sales are necessary to generate revenue so they can continue to develop AND upgrade servers. I don't understand how people don't get this. Sure the popularity has caused some problems, but it's not as if they can just plug in new servers and scale up on command. Infrastructure takes time, sales proceeds have to go through the appropriate channels, like paying off short-term liabilities and expenses, before that money can be allotted for infrastructure or other development. All in all BSG has done a pretty decent job of handling the massive influx of players, as well as providing prompt community driven patches to EFT and holding dev talks. They've openly acknowledged they've had difficulties and that they dread weekend traffic as it essentially keeps them on call 24/7. In addition they've provided in-game compensation for some of these server drops, with weapon cases and more. This is a relatively small studio that thus far has created an astonishing product that's has huge amounts of additional content scheduled still for release. Have patience with the company and the game, there's a reason it's in beta still. Considering the state of some "beta" games out there, EFT is practically a fully fledged release.
TL;DR Go back, read, and check your incessant need for instant gratification at the door
