Hey people, as you have probably noticed, the new changes regarding ammo have cause quite the uproar in the community. Me, a player that has about 1.6k hours and has been playing since the end of 2019, and have been playing tarkov on and off for the last year.
The last few wipes have introduced us to new guns and diffrent changes, that were at launch highly controversial but eventually the community got used to it. Though I do remember the "old days" of the game, where 7N31 or M995 were purchasable at max trader levels and you could by a slick or altyn for around 300k on the flea, these changes ultimately made the game better. It was directly targeted at the "chads" of the game, lowering their killpotential by limiting their access to insanely OP weaponry or gear. However, it didn't nerf the "grinders" of the game, who haven't touched grass in 3 years and play the game all day, every day for the same time some people go to work. These people would just farm so many raiders and now rouges to get their high tier ammo and gear they so desperatly need to play the game.
The current changes are in my eyes very problematic for a number of reasons:
Reason 1: It promotes even more RMT trading, as the people with max traders and maxed out hideout can sell their highly sought after ammo for real money, opening the gates to an entirely new market. Players will jsut take the shortcut and ask higher level friends for ammo drops or be faced with playing weaker rounds and trying to compete againt high class body-armours and faceshields
Reason 2: Causal players will stop playing Tarkov actively, as they are faced with bad ammo and bad gear until they max out certain traders (or get them to a min. lvl of 3). Casual players, who work jobs or have a life outside of a computer screen will not enjoy Tarkov anymore, as the players who "grind" their way to max traders, will have a even bigger advantage now, having access to the best ammo (SP6, M80, M55A1, AP-SX, .45AP, etc.) and the best gear (Gzhel, Korund, AACPC, etc. ) and higher level skills. It basically removes the somewhat decently fun midgame, where everyone had Class 4 rigs and semi-decent guns, with all early wipe gameplay and the sudden switch to chad loadouts and gameplay
Reason 3: It promotes a ever more defensive playstyle, as players will have to surprise people in oderer to win gunfights. Currently extract camping and rat-like gameplay is reaching previously unthinkable levels. The combination of new players and shittty ammo up until Trader lvl. 3 makes players play extremely cautious, fighting only when necessary and getting the drop on people and killing them with leg-meta. I myself have been killed more by bushcampers (I prefer to call them Bushwookies) than through actual gunfights.
Hopes for the Future:
I would hope Tarkov introduces us to more kinds of ammunition. They could introduce bullets for various calibers that could substuitute for some better rounds. A example of this would be to introduce a round between 762×39 PS and BP. The new round having more penn than PS but not as high as BP, making BP (the best round of the caliber as MAI AP is FiR only) only accessible to those who actually get Workbench to lvl. 3 but giving lower level players a round that they can use instead of PS ammo and have a fighting chance against higher level players. The same could be done with other Meta calibers, creating a platform for non-meta rounds that are actually viable.
Another thing BSG should introduce is a No-Wipe server, where the major patches would be uploaded but without the patch being a wipe. Through this, the casual playerbase could play and have fun with decent kits and not having to worry about the time they invest into the game and all the progress being gone in 6 months time. It would also create a server for new players to play with friends, as they could teach the newbie the game, while maintaining a certain standard in gameplay. In addition, it would make for awesome PvP. Everyone would have good gear and fights would last a lot longer, allowing defensive players to get used to playing more offensive. Since the server would not wipe, the players would not have to worry about losing gear or having to grind through annoying quests again. Also, Kappa would be realistic for anyone, as currently only no-lifers or streamers have achance of ever even getting close to " The Collector" Task from Fence.
TLDR: Tarkov ammo changes are bad for the overall health of the game, causing the playerbase to split and polarize even more. The new changes promote RMT-Trading, forces a even heftier price from the casual players and promotes a rat-like playstyle. Wishes for the future would be a No-Wipe server and creating more rounds between meta and absoulte trash.
