Specifically, I feel that once you've got enough armor that you can withstand a Deathsquito's attack without being staggered, fighting in the Plains become inconsequential.
In every other biome past Meadows, you are forced to take the terrain into account during combat. Either you're watching your stamina because you're spending it dodging over hills, you're pivoting to be on the same level as your enemy, or you're making sure your back isn't to water in case you get knocked into it.
The Plains are beautiful, but I don't feel like their specific terrain is being made best use of in the gameplay.
Ideas that would make the Plains more interesting to me:
As it stands, it's just too easy for me to sneak up on a village, aggro a berserker or two into the open, pop Bonemass, and wait for cooldown to do it again. It's also repetitive.
The fight with Yuglath is pretty solid though. It punishes you for being out in the open, but gives you a few large monoliths to duck behind. I like that.
EDIT: Conversation with other Redditors has led me to believe that the tar pit generation in my world is heavily neutered, as they are rare and easily avoided for me. If everyone else's experience is that tar pits are a consistent threat when in the Plains, then that's the average challenge I'm looking for and everything is fine.
