How do you guys feel about having a more elaborate potion/scroll system, such as the one in warcraft 3, in dota?
As it stands, dota 2 has most of the RPG/fantastical elements, except for potions/scrolls. We have armor/weapons, enchanted armor/weapons, magical artifacts, magical spells, a leveling system, passives and talents, magical structures, auras, runes, summons, etc.
What if we added more expensive one-time use items like a scroll of protection (eg. give 10% dmg resists in aoe for limited time), a scroll of summoning (this could replace the old necronomicon), or potion of arcane damage (eg. add 30% magic amp). There could be expensive scrolls/potions that give much stronger temporary buffs than items would. There could be a system where you would need a specific item in order to be able to use certain potions.
I think this could be interesting as it provides a good comeback mechanic. A team that is behind could invest in a 1000 gold scroll/potion along with a smoke, use it to catch the winning team off guard and turn the tide of the game. This could also break the monotony of sieges, the pushing team could use a scroll to help push through enemy defenses and defending team need to be on their guard with their own set of scrolls/potions to counterattack. Moreover, it could make endgame more interesting as both teams would constantly be forced to in potions/scrolls in order to maintain a continuous advantage.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
