I started playing ED using the standard PS4 controller, which tbh is pretty fantastic once I committed all the button combos to memory. It's not perfect, of course, so I've been looking for some other options. Ideally, I would like to use some sort of HOTAS, either on its own or in combination with something else, but I need something with sufficient keys to bind and hotkey a lot of options.
I purchased the thrustmaster HOTAS and it was….underwhelming? I guess that would be the word. I thought it would make my life easier, but instead its basically the same controller scheme as the PS4 controller with the added headache of relearning the button mapping. The throttle controls, however, are much more responsive so that's a plus, just didn't think it was so much of a benefit to justify a permanent switch to it.
I also tried combing the HOTAS with a keyboard and then a razer tartus v2 only to learn the hard way that PS4 does not have support for more than one controller (which is dumb, a HOTAS and comoanion keyboard would be the perfect setup). Suffice to say, I'm going to be returning all of the foregoing and, for now, sticking with the PS4 controller and second screen app for typing.
The only way I can see around the PS4's lack of flexibility when combining multiple controllers would be to get one controller, probably a HOTAS, that has sufficient additional keys that I could bind everything to the HOTAS keys, but I haven't found anything like that yet, so please let me know your suggestions.
