Terminology Refresher
Role Queue is a function within Ranked Roles that allows players to find matches faster. Players can earn 4 games for Role Queue every time they search for a match with all roles selected. A maximum of 60 Role Queue games can be earned and stored.
The Norm
Often cases, most players would farm 'Role Queues' in Ranked Matches to get back onto playing the more popular roles i.e Safelane Carry / Midlane Carry. These players that lacks role queue will oftentimes get the Support Role. In some cases, a few may get the Offlane Carry role but it's not as prevalant as being support. These players may most likely have mediocre-to-bad games and that has been accepted as a norm throughout the different brackets of ranked Dota.
The Topic for Debate
Increase game quality by allowing those who wish to play Support without having to spend 'Role Queues'
Author's Argument
The Support roles are one of the most neglected roles in various games and that does not exclude Dota 2, a team game. It is also the role that gets their hands dirty the most, aside from the Offlaner. They are the embodiment of the quote: “I walked so you could run," creating multiple opportunities for the team throughout the different phases of the game. As much as players wouldn't want a bad carry, they just as much wouldn't love a bad support.
A lot of us take this for granted but there are a rare few of us, I, myself included, enjoy the beauty of supporting. A good core player would say that knowing how to support would be the first step into improving as a carry. Now, if often is the case that players would queue up only to play the core – leading roles, why don't we let support players queue as Supports without having to be limited by 'Role Queues'.
From my own experience, multiple times have I encountered running out of Role Queues while playing as a Soft Support. I would then proceed to select all roles expecting that I would get Hard / Soft Suppport. The reason for my (exaggerated) mastery of the support role is in believing that most people have figured out how to play the carry roles, and I'd like to entrust it into my randoms that they can carry. I would then like to have them entrust their backs to me…
… This doesn't turn out as expected as I would then get a Core Role, which would then most of the time leave the Support Players, in one way or another, be having a loss in quality and mastery. Games don't turn out to be as efficient as it could've been and would then turn out to be another decrease in rank. I don't necessarily think I'm an outstanding core but I can do enough, but throughout the game, I would think at times: "This would've been the best course of action as a support right now." Why don't I just deal with it and tell them myself? Micro-managing is a toxic trait, but of course helpful nudges are called in comms here and there but this should be innate if one wants to reach higher peaks in ranked. Aside from my long series of grumbling and whining, selecting all of the roles in role queuing often leaves you with support. If that's the case, why don't we give Support Role Queuers the limitless option to do so?
TL;DR
Author goes on to talk about why queueing as a support is just another way of All-Select role queueing, as at the end of the day, they'll highly likely match up as a Support anyway. This is all while bringing about an inspiring tale of general experiences about supporting and why it's as important and crucial. Thus, the topic for discussion and suggestion has arisen.
