You're playing someone who is stuck in purgatory. They don't want to be there, they want to ascend to Valhalla. Odin put them in Valheim so they can earn their place in glorious Viking Heaven, and that's what we're doing as we play – defeating the Forsaken to win Odin's favor and leave this place behind.
This is directly at odds with the "more endgame content!" complaints. Staying in Valheim forever with interminable updates meant to trickle out content so you never actually complete the game – where the game doesn't even have an end – is a direct contradiction of both the game's premise and the studio's plans. It's not an MMO or a "game as a service," thank Freyja. It's in development, but it will eventually have an end, and you'll reach it, and the game will be over when you ascend to Valhalla. That's a good thing.
