For this week's Flurza Podcast, I asked the question:
As a custom card creater I want my ideas more relavent to the game, is it possible for CPR to hold a custom card contest and add the top-notch cards to the game?
Their response can be found in the latest Flurza video.
First of all I apologies for my tone, and missing out the D in my typing.
And I must state the fact that I do not consider myself entitled to have my ideas add to the game.
I understand the game has its own balance team and intricate state of affairs, and I respect the fact CDPR prefer to keep the game designing to themselves.
I don't know if other custom card creators agree with me, but Gwent being a digital card game means that it is impossible for a player to print out their own cards and experiment with them. With no access to the system all custom cards are nothing but a picture. Such are the limitations of a digital game. It means the developers and the developers only hold the power to add certain elements into the game.
Under that premise, you can see why I consider a custom card contest as the sole method to remove that limitation. Essentially, an official card design contest is where community designers hand over their creation in consent (under some sort of agreement, which hopefully settles the intellectual property issue), in hope that it would become a part of the system, to be shared and enjoyed by the whole player base. And it is an event where creativity are encouraged and celebrated.
To my knowledge, there have been other digital TCGs which held similar contests (for instance, sanguosha/legend of the three kingdoms, their Overknight fame content&expansion) , and in result brought some of the most balanced and flavourful cards into the game. Those cards were selected and evaluated by the actual card designers (including the creative director), and are susceptable to further balancing/adjustments. If such an event would take place, the balancing team will remain highly involved in the process, much like making their own expansions.
Anyway I sincerely hope the devs would reconsider this matter, before making a rash judgement.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
