So this thought falls into Flake's favourite topic, which he promotes with the core of his being: standard rotation. This happens in all big collectible card games, be it Magic, Hearthstone and so on, but Gwent used to stay on the sidetrack and shy away from it.
But does it really?
So standard rotation, long story short, is a way to change the card pool by removing its part and adding new pieces. The removed cards may be used in a different play standard, but are banned in the standard version of the game. The thing is, they still exist in a limbo, but are not gone for good.
I've just come to a conclusion that monthly patches do function as a "light" version of standard rotation. Every time a card gets reworked, we actually lose the card and get a new one, only its artwork remains, so we don't have to craft it anew. Nevertheless, we lose cards, synergies, sometimes whole decks. Recent examples? Ritual sacrifice turned into a unit with a completely different ability practically wiped out the meme Rat Clog deck. A couple months before, Dandelion rework (charges into deck buff) killed its synergy with Vysogotha, removing the last deck focused on Charges that I know of.
In both cases, a card was removed and a new one came, only the artwork remained the same. It's like standard rotation lite is already there, but under a different name – monthly balance changes.
Do you agree?
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
