Since OCE is completely dead, and has been for the past few months (you can walk around Labs, Lighthouse and Shoreline without hearing another soul).
I want some PvP action for tasks, I've been trying to play on ASI based servers instead, and Singapore would be a perfect alternative as Hong Kong and Japan are just a little high in the latency.
I've noticed that EFT uses 3x Datacamp and 3x GoDaddy instances for their Singapore based servers. No matter where you hit those GoDaddy servers from within Australia you get over ~300ms latency.
If you test the Datacamp based servers the latency is in the ~90-100ms range. These tests were done from home and via Looking Glass from most major Australian ISPs.
It's just insane to me that from a technical perspective, you would even consider using GoDaddy as a hosting provider for a "hardcore fps". Even if they are using dedicated hardware plans over virtual private servers. Datacamp has their own ethics problems, but at least they are using decent upstream providers with reasonable routing.
I really hope that the introduction of Arena will mean a forced churn away from shitty providers like GoDaddy. There is a plethora of public cloud providers that are miles better and cheaper than GoDaddy.
Singapore based players, what is your experience like there? I noticed even latency from Singapore based datacentres seemed stupidly high (~100ms).
