State of the game

Introduction

I've been upset with the game for a long time and the declining userbase on Dota confirms my negative bias towards the current state of the game. Im not looking for this to be a post that will change the state of the game but highlight my own journey as a Dota player with over 6 000 hours in Dota 2 and alot more in Dota 1

highest mmr achieved is 6 100ish currently unranked immortal

About Me

I am just a "regular" player who loves to play Dota 2, i dont pay alot of attention to patches and figure stuff as i go, i dont held alot of data except for knowledge about heroes interaction and whatever involves ingame things (ability cooldowns, spawn timers etc etc).edit: regarding patches is that patches has been increasingly longer and usually there was no scepter shard, no talent tree or neutral item changes so less to read and less changes

What i love about Dota

Dota is the Moba game that ive fallen in love with the most, it has a strategic aspect that really drew me into it during Wc3. That is the reason ive been playing this game for an extended period of time and i keep coming back. The impact of being able to position yourself to turn the whole event of a fight or to stop someone from turning the whole fight around is a pleasant experience. that some heroes has abilities that will turn fights on its head is what keep every game interesting.

What happend

i could always come back to the game no matter what year it was until the 7.00 patch dropped implementing talents, it was an interesting feature which would increase the powerlevel of all the heroes. you had a choice and a path to go for what u needed in the current game. This made alot of my friends quit the game because it meant more variables and you couldnt as easily jump in and out the game because previously there were only minor changes to abilities. This added an extra layer to calculation when it came to calculating cooldown timers and the unknown of variable playstyle. Which in my opinion made all the previous i know very redundant, all of a sudden heroes had talents to increase movementspeed (if the player chose to) so my 350 movementspeed wouldnt be enough to run away from their potential of having 365 or whatever. This dragged me away from most of the known and made me care less about differentiating movementspeeds.

Neutral item

As neutral items was added to the game more variables came to the table, i recently did a test with a friend to ask him if he knew all the tier 1 items including their cooldowns. He has about 15k hours in the game and he didnt remember all the tier 1 items and didnt know the cooldown of some of them. which really tells you that even the most active players have a lack of connection to the game and its too much on their plate. I'd encourage you to do the test yourself and see if you can name all the tier 1 neutral items along with cooldowns and attributes. and you can also swap these around which happens fairly quickly with the different tiers which bring slightly different scenarioes to the table.

As of the last patch

As of the last patch 7.31 ive lost all interest. I get queued with people who doesnt speak my language, and as a very vocal player that has interest in playing together as a team it's scratching my nerves to try to implement strategies to the game alongside my teammates. This has resulted in people reporting me, and my behaviour score has dropped immensely. Now finding a game takes 30 minutes at least. Every game has automatically muted people which i have to unmute to speak to. i just wanna speak to my team and cordinate attacks efficiently which is what i love about the game. but after every patch, new abilities new cooldowns cooldown reduction it takes away everything i loved about the game and becomes very random. Its hard to keep up and now it feels like mindless playing. Everything was really important from hitting that spell on that target or holding onto a fissure because u needed it at a specific time but now, or knowing when to do different things on the map, u lose a kill because of Pig Pole, your enemy has an Ocean Heart which loses the need for a clarity and gets a kill during a chase cause of the regen, its just so many things which takes away from the need of correct itembuilding or that you feel like youve been fairly killed.

End

This is my opinion and it probably wont change anything with the game, im venting out my frustration for a game i love. The feeling is familiar to the one of world of warcrafts development. If this reaches the Valve team i would love for them to poll the community regarding things, maybe my opinion is unpopular or controversial which doesnt really matter to me just sharing my personal view and maybe some people that has the same opinion feel like theyre not alone in it.

TLDR: more items, more variables, more changes when change happens and less impactful meaning to each descision (all has couriers, mana management is less needed etc)
