STW First Impressions

Since I got Save the World through Crew this month, I figured I'd give it a try to see what its all about. I'd asked some friends about it previously since I see folks mention it in the BR reddit from time to time.

Building

I'm not a huge builder…I just started playing Fortnite just over a year ago overall. Who's dumb idea was it to make ramp editing some weird click and drag nonsense when all other editing is just click the parts you don't want? Overall though it is helping me get a little better at building, but damn I accidentally build stuff in weird ass places instead of doing what I actually want so much. I mostly play zero build BR these days, but even before zero build I only built a wall or ramp here and there. The whole trap thing is new and so cumbersome. I use a controller and I know building isn't the easiest on controller but I started on switch so a controller is most comfortable for me even on PC.

Movement

Man I really miss sprinting & vaulting onto ledges. I feel so slow not being able to drive cars, sprint or vault onto ledges. I hope they're planning on updating STW someday because that'd be so nice to have greater movement options in this mode.

Map

Yikes, the minimap is awful and doesn't show much of anything. The full map is even worse. I hate how it doesn't actually show much and I get so lost just trying to get around.

Missions

As I've said, I just started trying STW this month, but I do like the missions overall. It's a fun mode but boy does it need an update.

Crafting & UI

I've had to look up so much stuff because it's just not intuitive. Like the collection book, Is it just a place to put duplicate schematics like a sticker book of sorts? What does "retiring" a hero/survivor really do? I was using one gun and a message popped up about durability, but it didn't tell me what that meant? Does that mean my gun will break? Can I fix it? I can see it tries to guide you through what's happening but it doesn't explain what some things are and I'm just flying blind. And lord there are so many menus within menus and I keep getting confused moving between screens. Some of it seems redundant. Like I should just be able to view a hero and do level ups and such all in one screen.

Any advice folks have for someone starting out in STW is appreciated. Mostly this is my thoughts on this mode and my wish that Epic puts in some work and updates this mode because it's fun but it could be even more fun with better movement and UI improvements.
