The day I watched Dota 2 for hours with a bunch of my c suite buddies

This happened somewhere around 2013-2014, it gave me a good chuckle when I recalled what happened.

I was working as a a CEO for a pretty cool ISP. I usually would stay in the board room and help oversee any issues that arise that the regular workers couldn't handle. I was pretty rich and must admit, was the type to bang tables and demand what I wanted immediately.

One day at work, the tech guy was in and me and a few executives came barging in explaining we had numerous complaints for online games and that I wanted that fixed immediately. The tech guy asked for some more info, and Geoff, a senior vice president, read out the complaint and it was basically someone complaining about lag while playing Dota 2.

This tech guy starts making excuses, saying it's very hard to pinpoint the root cause immediately, and that he’d need to gather more details from the user and also do some testing before he could can get back to me. I said "No, I want this shit done and tested now. Download the game and play it to see if it lags. I don't care if you've never seen this game before, just do it."

The tech guy said ok, and started downloading Dota 2. Meanwhile my buddies start grabbing seats and sit behind this nerd to watch. Once the game is installed he starts playing(can't recall if it was a bot match or against other players, I think it's the latter). Now I hadn't watched Dota since my uni days which I think was 5.84c, but the basics were still there – I could understand last hit, deny creeps, know when to move in for kills etc.

"Have you played this game before?" I asked. "Nope. I did play a previous version prob 6 years ago." He said.

“You look pretty familiar with it. What is that thing?" I start asking about stuff on the screen and he tried to explain them to us. At this point, my buddies were really getting into it and started asking questions too. The tech guy had to talk and explain stuff throughout the whole game.

Finally the game ends, and he tells me it was really smooth and he didn't experience any lag. However he will still follow up on that issue by calling the user and checking some of the system settings. "That can't be! Maybe one game isn't enough. You need to play a few more to see if the lag appears!" I protested.

He tried to argue that it wasn't necessary but i wouldn't budge. So he ended up playing multiple games till 6pm while having a bunch of big shots sit behind him (Geoff, Chad, Frank, John and myself) , half asking questions and the other half watching intensely. He didn't experience any lag the whole time, so we call it a day and he promised me that he would follow up on that issue.

His colleague finally sees him coming out of the room and is really concerned. We all kind of sat there encapsulated, however we did hear this conversation:

"Hey man, are u alright? You were in there for hours with them, wtf happened?"
"I was playing Dota 2"
"… Fuck off."
"No, really…."

Strangest executive experience I've ever had.
