So after the last Abomination update my mods compatibility broke. So as I'm waiting, I decided upon a new challenge, which ended up being a playthrough without using either the map and mini map.
I managed to fare well by using portals correctly, that is until a couple days ago.
In my travels to find a large Swamp biome, I found the Trader right on the coast, with a Huge swamp beside it full of crypts. I promptly built a base next to it, with a full forge settup and several smelters for all the incoming metal I was planning to extract from all the Swamp shit I was about to fondle.
When I mine a crypt I place a portal right outside, connected to my main base (not the merchant one) so that I have a place to store all the goodies like entrails and blobs' drops, among others. I first store the crypt's metal in a box outside the door.
After storing my metal, I was about to jump in the portal that I had just reconnected to my merchant base to go sell all the precious loot, as an Oozer jumped me from behind and poisoned me. He regretted that. But ended up killing me.
I woke up at my main base. With my portal disconnected from my death location which is forever away. I play /nomap. I have no gear anymore.
I realized that, as heat came to my head, and my lips whispered "FUUUUUCK!"
Long story short. I managed to sail my way back to my corpse. Took me over 2 hours of trying to remember which way I sailed, and reforging the gear to farm fine wood for a decent ship. Cause appearently my badass vyking can't swim to save his life.
In the honorable mentions, I died 3 times. Once to a greydwarf that pushed my naked body in the water where a 1 star leech sodomized me. Once to a troll that was hiding behing a couple trees as I crafted my boat not noticing him.
And the last time, I finally found the way back, but night fell with a very thick fog. And as I was sailing I crashed on a shore of plains. I tried turning back and getting away from the coast, but OF COURSE a deathsquito was ALSO on that beach and didn't ask my consent to blood sample my ass.
Anyway. I craft a boat one last time and finally reached the shore of my merchant base. And lo and behold, as my ship hit the shore, Odin appeared a small distance away to greet me after my trial.
That felt quite good, and is now a great experience which I enjoyed.
I love Valheim
