A play session narrative.
I am traveling in my longboat exploring a new Mist lands landmass when I come across a nice looking cove, looks promising. I have all the best food, had just eaten, boat undamaged, stamina good, it is night time, it is in a Mistland bubble, and I am wearing a helmet that almost covers my eyes. So I turn into it and begin traveling down the lane.
It is a Mist land bubble so visibility is low but there are no sounds, that should have been my first clue, it was quiet…too quiet.
The wind is at my back but I am traveling at speed one as it is fairly tight, about 5 yards on both sides with your standard spires packed together. As I move forward the absence of sound except for the water is unnerving.
In this mist bubble the wisp light is very weak. As I move forward my wisp light rotates around and uncovers the face of a Gjall, ocean level directly in front of my long boat, and a dead end. I slam the boat into reverse…too late.
The earsplitting roar of the beast is amazingly loud as my boat drifts under it, reverse still not fully kicked in. It's tentacles dragging along my long boats front deck. I then hear the pitiful wail of seekers directly above me and the sickening chatter of their wings as they descend. At the same time the Gjall shudders and drops three ticks onto my deck.
All this is happening at the same time. I have carapace arrows loaded already so I fire into the underside of the Gjall…and the boat clips my view as I aim directly up at the Gjall, I see deck, Gjall, deck, Gjall as the waves move up and down, I curse. I fire into the Gjall's underside taking out huge chunks as two normal seekers drop on to the boat and slam me back, the ticks latch on and begin sucking blood, then a third normal seeker and fourth one star seeker drop onto the boat. It is crowded. I block two attacks from the seekers.
My final arrowshot kills the Gjall as it's last breath is a spitball that ignites me, I pop a large health potion. The ticks are still on me, I turn to one of the normal seekers crowding in front, I take it out, the other three are bouncing around so I pull out my hammer to get rid of the ticks. As I am about to slam the hammer on my deck, mid swing, the one star hits me from behind, followed by the second and…third….I feel like a Hockey Puck on a tiny table.
My stamina nearly gone, my health at about 15, I welcome the cold, spear like claw when it stabs through my chest. The darkness is peaceful. The battle lasts less than a minute. I get up and go to the refrigerator, calmly open the door and grab a Mott's cinnamon applesauce cup, I sit back down and slowly eat it, my brothers laughter on the other side of the speaker complimenting the applesauce cup. I say nothing.
I thought I could get away with not using Bonemass, but I remembered the bold comments of those saying "Bonemass is too powerful" I took their advice once, I will not make the same mistake again. May the Valkyries drop you and your advice on your way to Valhalla!!
Recovery is pretty straight forward. I put on my backup gear, grab another boat and head to the landmass. As I approach from the backside I see where the four seekers came from, a dungeon about 15 yards up a steep bubble of land, directly above my boat. The most amazing thing, my long boat is still floating. I dispatch the last three seekers, deal with the last two ticks, and then jump onto my boat. Barely a sliver of health is left on it.
I repair my boat, a couple quick trips after I move my boat off my marker, get everything sorted, I go into the dungeon and make everything inside pay so very dearly.
A decent play session.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
