Thoughts about the discrepancy between bad task design and marked changes. And how to make this game more attractive to the “middle ground” players mid and long-term.

(Boi that title is hard to swallow.)

Reduce the PMC kill amount in “dress up” Tasks drastically. Like to five kills. SCAV Vest, Ushanka, etc. are already a pain in the ass and they feel like purposefully bad designed to artificially drag out time. I have never ever had fun pursuing these tasks. It feels more like a chore.

Streamers and people with a lot of free time (a lot of “Tarkov Time”) finish these tasks in a very short amount of time due to being significantly better at the game. Experienced casual players take way, way longer. I needed over a week for “Silent Caliber” in the last wipe. The problem that comes up is that a lot of things can not be sold on the market anymore. Like level 6 Armor. If you would find an armor like that it could subsidize dying and losing quite a lot of times. Now, you could make an argument to put the slick under the scav vest and go. The problem for me is that I DON'T want to have platinum gear and a shite Ushanka or Scav vest on Shoreline etc. Who am I? A 40-hours-per-week-player? No.

And I see some huge benefits:

  • Deterrence: I personally know 4 people who have read the task and went: “Nope. I’m out” and they never even tried. These 4 people are my only Tarkov-buddies. So one out of 5 did the tasks in the past.
  • New Tasks: Now we have more time for something interesting. Like follow-up tasks to kill Sanitas and like … use a syringe on his body to draw blood, bring it here and there, therapist, to labs, to peacekeeper, etc. You get the idea. But I personally don't even need to have them right now. For me, the game offers enough tasks to pursue.
  • Stash: The stash is getting out of hand. As I said, I don't want to use certain gear for something like a dress-up task. I rather bring it to labs or dorms (Evil Watchman) etc. People without EOD are at a huge disadvantage. In the past, they could transfer their stash into money, and back, if they needed something. E.g. you don’t have room. You sell a slick, and two days later you want to use one, you then buy it back and use it up.
  • Reduction of exasperation: self-explanatory I think.

Man, fuck the streamers and people complaining after a week, that there is nothing left to do in the game. BSG clearly knows how to add bullshit tasks for those people and here is an Idea free of charge “Kill Tagilla 100 times for Tattoos with Toz” -Jäger.

Sadly it looks like BSG is going the other way. Punisher 6 can not be done in Factory and for someone like me, this means, I won't finish this task.

I have more thoughts about this topic, but I like to keep the initial post somewhat shorter.
