Guys I have to share with someone how badly the game just screwed me over. I still can't believe it. I have spent quite the amount of hours in Valheim so far. Taking my time progressing through the game, building some nice bases and fighting the first three bosses so far. I have suffered quite a few painful moments, but today was the most brutal catastrophe I have experienced.
Let me set the scene: I am currently in the silver age. I've build a nice log cabin in a black forest on the edge of a mountain. Main goal was to tame and breed some wolves, so I can dump them in the ditch I dug under a greydwarf spawner that's near my base, thus creating my greydwarf farm. I was so excited to set this farm up and to finally get a cool wolf army.
After quite a lot of time taming 2 wolves and then breeding them, I eventually got about 5 wolves and dumped them in the greydwarf farm so they can get to work. So far so good.
Back at base I bred some more wolves in a small pen so I have some backup wolves. After groups of mobs kept attacking the wolf pen at my base, I decided to spend some time to dig a moat around my base and place some defense walls. Everything looked nice and safe. No mobs would be bothering me anymore. Valheim life felt great.
After a few 'days' working away, I had about 6 more wolves at my base. Meanwhile at the greydwarf farm, a few wolves were killed off, but there were 3 left and there was already more wood and resin than I knew what to do with, so I decided I would just let the last 3 die and replace my wolf pack at a later time.
I decided now was the time to transport 2 of my wolves from my log cabin to my main base which is in a bit of a safer location. It seemed like a smart idea to keep some wolves there, in case something ever went wrong. Little did I know, that by trying to take these safety precautions, I would eventually set in motion the worst catastrophe of my Valheim days.
I led my wolves to the coast, managed to load them onto the boat fairly quickly (thank you Youtube tutorials), and set sail to my main base, which was not that far away.
Did I notice the sun was setting by now? Yes. Was I aware of the threat that a serpent could pose? Yes, I have seen the unfortunate videos. Did I foolishly think I would be fine? Yes.
Since I would only have to cross a small bit of actual ocean biome, I thought it would be ok. Boy was I wrong! Literally the second the mini map said Ocean, my wolves instantly got triggered by a serpent before I even had the chance to spot him. Goodbye wolves.
After battling the serpent, I turned my boat around, angry with my stupidity. But I would be fine, right? I still had plenty of wolves in the pen after all. So I went back to base and decided I would sleep so I could set off with two more wolves in the morning and just forget about this silly mistake.
But then, before I can even make it to my bed… "A cold wind blows from the mountain".
Are you kidding me? It is pitch black right now, I'm surrounded by high trees and I only have 10 fire arrows left. How am I supposed to fight off multiple drakes? So…RIP all of my wolves. They killed every single one of them in the pen. I tried so hard, but there were just too many of them. There was nothing I could do.
This was very bad.
But didn't you say there were 3 wolves left at the greydwarf farm? Can't you save those and at least keep breeding more wolves? Why yes, that was exactly my next thought.
I walk over to the ditch and peer over the edge. All three wolves are still alive! Amazing! Let me just build some stairs to get them out and to safety. In only a couple more days I'll have a small wolf army again.
But wait… What's that I hear? Why are the wolves so agitated all of a sudden?
As I glance over to the other side of the ditch, I see a troll standing with arms stretched out, raising his log over his head, then brutally smashing 2 of my wolves who had climbed halfway up the wall of the ditch to attack him. At this point I am not even sure whether any of them made it. There is too much going on. I just stand in shock and prepare myself for the harsh reality of losing all of my wolves in one day.
As I stand there, I watch the troll raise his log once more. I'm not sure what he's trying to attack, aren't all of my wolves dead by now? He swings his big log in front of him, and manages to reach far enough over the egde of the ditch to reach the greydwarf spawner that hovers it the middle, destroying it in one hit. Is that even possible? The answer is yes, if you're stupid enough to have a ditch narrow enough so that a troll can reach it with his log.
I snap out of it, and quickly take down the troll. And then the severity of the catastrophe sinks in. Not only did I lose all of my wolves in one day to pretty much all of the types of mobs available, but also my irreplaceable greydwarf spawner is destroyed.
I walk over to the edge of the ditch, to confirm that what I have just seen has really happened, and nearly jump out of my chair as I find one remaining wolf! He is only barely alive, but he's there! Praise Odin for this miracle!
I lead my wolf out of the ditch and back to the relative safety of the pen. About an hour or so ago I could not have imagined being this happy to have one single wolf in my possession. With the wolf safe at the cabin, I quickly log out of the game before I can do any more damage.
So yeah, learn from my mistakes guys! Don't be impatient to set sail. Don't keep all of your wolves in one place. Don't ever think you are safe, lol.
I'm going to go and take a break after this heartbreaking loss. Hoping to find the courage to start taming a new wolf soon. I just wanted to share this tragedy with you all. Hopefully you can laugh at my terrible misfortune.
Not being able to craft them sucks. Especially when everyone I talk to about it…
First I'd like to say I absolutely love this game it's quality. Basically I first…
